I've been to a certain blog lately to admire his lovely knitting. Lately he has been doing hats that are wonderful. Today I found out that he spins too.  And he does beautiful work. Spinning Polwarth Heathered

Polwarth of course, my favorite fiber to spin. I'm working on a multi-colored heathered yarn.  First, I dyed the fleece several colors, reds, browns,purples, several earth tones. Then I hand combed the fiber mixing the colors for a beautiful heathered effect. That's the only way to get a real heathered yarn is to dye the fiber first and then mix the colors in the combing or carding or whatever process your using to prepare the fibers for spinning. I prefer hand combing to any other preparation. Nothing spins like freshly hand combed fiber. So after I had several colors combed I began to spin using one heathered color and then I would spin another heathered color and so on.... so the heathers are changing for a subtle effect. Then I'll ply for a 2 ply and let the colors blend even more. This could be interesting. See pics of the combing and spinning of the first color below.
